Stained glass restoration Muswell Hill recently. Edwardian era

There is a lot of mis-information going around about glass repairs to these types of windows today, You can repair almost any without making new ones - new panels are never going to be the sane as the old glass so all im saying is dont just take the advice of first person you ring from an internet search - find a specialist who can actually do the repair - save your old windows and save the environment at the same time.

All the best and stay safe - well done the NHS

A little history - Glass is a type of non-crystalline or amorphous solid. By traditional convention the term glass is reserved for an amorphous solid which has been formed by quenching a glass forming liquid (or melt) through its glass transition temperature sufficiently quickly that a regular crystal lattice cannot form

Edwardian Door panel

Some glass repairs this morning near Dollis Hill Tube Station. There are some really nice Edwardian feature's in these houses here. Most of the old doors around there have this design.

There is not that much of Edwardian stained glass examples that has survived in and around Kilkenny where I grew up. Some houses look a bit older than this era.

Muswell Hill door panels. These are 2 of my most recent restoration projects in the area. I live just of Fortis Green near to Cherry Tree so I am within easy reach of some of the nicest examples of the Edwardian properties around this area.

Although coloured glass continued to be made in the 17th and 18th centuries, the craft declined and skills were lost. Only in the 19th century was there a serious attempt to rediscover the techniques of the medieval glazier.

Restoration at Highgate

The making of stained-glass windows has hardly changed since the 12th century.

Since the traditional technique of setting glass into lead cames is the same in both cases, in the late 20th century the divisions between "leadlight" and "stained glass" became blurred, and the terms are now often used interchangeably for any window employing this technique, while the term "stained glass" is often extended in application to any windows, sculpture, and objects d'art using coloured glass.
